Vom Schicksal der Artus-Ritter in der italienischen Novellistik um 1300: Ur-Novellino und Novellino

Abstract

The article considers the five Arthurian novellas which are retold in the Ur-Novellino and the Novellino respectively. Contrary to the mainstream in Italian medieval research, which does not place much importance on the matière de Bretagne within the burgeoning literature around 1300, the article focuses on the manifold interest which the compilers of the two Novellino versions took in the Arthurian world and even more, in its astonishingly strong reception. The extent to which the Arthurian knights live up to the prologue’s program is outlined, as well as the metaliterary impact that the old French novels had on the compilers’ experiments with the first Italian book of novellas.

Der Artikel untersucht die im Ur-Novellino bzw. im Novellino erzählten fünf Artus-Novellen. Im Gegensatz zur geläufigen italienischen Mittelalterforschung, die nicht viel Wert auf die Relevanz der matière de Bretagne für die rasch aufblühende Literatur um 1300 legt, nimmt der Artikel das vielfältige Interesse in den Blick, das die Kompilatoren der beiden Novellino-Versionen an der Artuswelt und mehr noch, an ihrer erstaunlich starken Rezeption nahmen. Das Ausmaß, in dem die Artusritter dem Programm des Prologs gerecht werden, wird skizziert, ebenso der metaliterarische Einfluss, den die altfranzösischen Romane auf die Experimente der Kompilatoren mit dem ersten italienischen Novellenbuch hatten.
